WOOD WEEK UPDATE
Wood Week in Quebec City, which is just three weeks away, is shaping up to be a great event as it combines several established shows, including LogFor, InterSaw and Démo Forêt 2000.
The Centre de foires de Québec, ExpoCité, will be the venue for this must-attend industry event. This show will draw qualified buyers from sawmilling, logging and other related Industries.
Building with Wood is a fitting title for this year’s event as demand for lumber is growing on a worldwide scale and the tight supply will be a boon to the lumber industry.
Reports peg demand in North America to grow as well. This year, consumption is expected to come in at 45 billion board feet and as housing normalizes, it is expected to rise to 60 billion board feet by 2013.
The demand is there and is getting greater, note the show organizers at Saint John, NB-based Master Promotions adding that the products, equipment and knowledge that are needed by industry to get the job done will be showcased at Wood Week 2011.
Show manager Mark Cusack is pleased the excitement the show has been generating within the industry.
“The demand is there and is getting greater,” he says. “The optimism in this industry is coming back, especially with recent reports indicating that the sector is expected to post small gains this year, before double digit improvements in 2012. We are pleased where we are with exhibit sales, with many of the major players on board, and at this point we are well ahead of where we were for the inaugural edition of Wood Week in 2009. We are seeing the momentum rise again, as the event is now just around the corner.”
It will be “one-stop shopping,” as many of the players involved in the forestry industry will be on hand to discuss the latest technology and services available to the marketplace today. Cusack says exhibit sales are moving at a brisk place with many of the major players in the forestry industry signing on.
