WOOD TECH CANCELLED
Tough times for the forest products industry have played a role in the cancellation of next spring’s Wood Technology show in Portland, Ore.
Show organizers issued a statement this week on the cancellation. “Due to general market conditions and the overwhelming feedback we've received from industry suppliers and our traditional audience, the 2012 Wood Technology Clinic & Show scheduled for March 13-15 will be postponed indefinitely. While our intention was to hold the show as planned, market conditions are such that we felt holding the show at this time would not provide the best value for our customers.”
The organizers have said they will continue to monitor the situation and listen to the show’s audience and supplier bases to determine when to revive Wood Technology. “This event has a rich history of serving this market for more than 40 years and we hope to continue to serve it when we can stage a quality event for all involved.”
While the Wood Technology show won’t happen in Portland during 2012, a new wood products show will take place in the Rose City. Hatton Brown Publishers, based in Montgomery, Alabama have scheduled the Timber Processing & Energy Expo for October 17-19, 2012 at the Portland Metropolitan Exposition Center.
Rich Donnell, Editor-in-Chief at Hatton-Brown Publishers and the show’s director, says they conducted surveys of a representative group of machinery companies and spoke to numerous mill personnel before moving forward. “Given Hatton-Brown's position as long-time publishers of forest products magazines, with long-standing relationships with equipment companies, and our ongoing in-the-field connections to the mills and their managerial personnel, we feel we can do it right and offer an outstanding event that will benefit the industry at large."
Donnell says Hatton-Brown views this event as primarily a wood products machinery event (including the lumber, engineered wood products and panel industries), with complementary support by the energy sector including mill-related wood based heat energy (lumber drying, cogeneration, etc.). He adds that the event will include seminars covering mill operational issues.
